Pochard images

Captured some nice shots of this Pochard at Killingworth this morning. This is a bird i have never managed to get too close to in the past and while i had captured some slightly distant images earlier on my visit i was surprised when the duck eventually ventured closer.

  1. What a beautiful duck. I clicked on the photos to enlarge them and the eyes are really extraordinary.... like rubies. :)

  2. I've never met Ruby Lesley so i don't know what Ruby's eyes are like.
I can see what you mean though. I actually like the ROSTRUM on a duck. Followers of Eggheads will know what i'm on about. The beak or bill. Some ducks have stunning beaks and this is one.

  3. Lol! And I haven't seen many real rubies either! When I looked at the photograph of this duck, I knew there was something distinctive about it and, now that you mention its beak .... that's what it is. (Rostrum, isn't that something Jocky Wilson used to stand on?)

  4. You mention Jocky Wilson there Lesley. I remember seeing him in a darts tournament that was held at Gateshead Leisure Centre many moons ago. The thing that struck me was that he was quite a short guy and rather rotund and on stage it was like watching a SPACE HOPPER playing darts.

  5. Poor Jocky, bless him.... that description sounds about right! Mind you, it seems to me that most darts players are 'big' people. They should get out and get more exercise, doing things like birdwatching and gardening. :D
